Doctor Sharon Elise is a professor of sociology at California State University, San Marcos, where she teaches courses in race and ethnic relations, gender, social movements, critical race theories, and community and social theory. Her current research interests are in the criminalization and "prisonification" of African Americans, changing racial and ethnic identities in diverse California, educational equity, postcolonial theory, and feminism. Finally, she writes and performs poetry, holds title of SLAM winner for the first city-wide slam held in San Diego (1998) and served on the first SLAM team representing San Diego.
